Gear Rundown

I took a few photos of the gear I’m planning on starting with. The base weight comes out to about 15lbs, which is pack weight less food and water. So with 5 days of food and 2 liters of water, 30lbs is about as heavy a pack that I plan on carrying

The dry bag is for storing food overnight. I’ll find a rock, put it in the little baggie, attach the rope to the baggie, and launch it over a tree branch. Then the food bag is hoisted up and hung high to keep it away from critters and bears.

These are all the extra clothes in the pack. I’ll have an extra wool shirt and boxers, and 2 extra pairs of socks. I’ve got a pair of cheap rain pants that I’m planning on carrying for the first few weeks, at least until night time temps start to rise, the first few weeks look to be cold

Here’s all the miscellaneous gear: first aid stuff (bandaids, alcohol wipes, medicines, gauze pads, etc.), kitchen gear (stove, pot, spoon, knife), tooth brush, floss, tooth paste, electronics (battery pack, headphones, cables)

I haven’t decided on a water treatment, so I’m starting with chemical treatment and mechanical filtration. I’m going to test both out and send back the one I don’t want to use.

Sleep system includes a foldable foam pad that I cut in half. I may regret this decision… The sleeping bag is a 20degree down quilt which will be stored in the dry bag. I’ll have to be careful to keep it dry, down feathers clump together and lose all of its insulation value when wet.

The tent is stored in the grey sack. It’s a pyramid shaped trekking pole tent. I sealed the seams about a week ago, so I haven’t actually tested it it’s waterproof or not. I will find out soon enough…

My backpack is a 48 liter frameless pack. I’m going use the foldable foam pad to serve as the frame for the backpack. The trash bag is going to line the pack to keep the gear dry.
