Wayah Gap Picnic Area

Day 11, Sunday, 3/27 – I woke up in the hotel at 7:22, Liz and Genie also happened to wake up at the same time. Genie reminded us that there was a shuttle leaving at 7:30am for all-you -can-eat pancakes. The First Baptist Church of Franklin hosts this event every day for about a month during peak thru hiker season. We threw on clothes and shoes, got in the shuttle, and were eating pancakes within 15 minutes of waking up.

Steven from the church gave us a ride back to the trail. We started walking and ran into Roxannne and Mark, who were some Trail Angels who packed Snickers and Twix for thru hikers that they passed.

We got to Siler Bald, and there was a bunch of hikers breaking for lunch in a nice sunny area. We threw packs off and joined. I was happy to run back into Dan, Phil, Mitch (who is now 100 grand), and Apples. There’s a hiker in the photo carrying a legit 6’ spear. I thought it was a funny gag at first, but it didn’t take long for me to realize that it wasn’t… we let him hike ahead of us.

We hiked 5.5 miles to Wayah Gap Picnic Area which puts us at mile 115. We are camping with Willow, Axe Hole, Parkour, and Jetpack. It’s Parkours 34th birthday today, and his friend Running Bear met up with us with fruits, veggies, donuts, and beer
