Cosby Knob Shelter

Day 22, Thursday, 4/7 – Sprite and I started the hike together today. I really found a great hiking partner, she’s a real friend. We speak openly with each other, and I feel like I can learn a lot from her. She has overcome a lot in life and still manages to start every morning with gratitudes, and lives life to the fullest.

We hiked the second half of the day with Jetpack, Parkour, and Willow. In total we hiked 13 miles to mile 231, ending the day at Cosby Knob Shelter. I’m hiking 10 miles to Standing Bear Hostel tomorrow. I’ve never been more excited to do laundry. Once again everything I own is wet and smells awful.

My tent was soaked from last night, so I set it up to dry it out. Parkour, Genie, and Data have been talking me into switching to a hammock setup. I think I’m convinced. I need to get off the ground to avoid ground water and backsplash. With how many people are out here, it’s hard to find decent tent spots when it’s storming.

There is snow on the forecast for tomorrow, I’m happy I don’t have to camp in snow. All things considered, I got a great weather window through the Smokies.
