Day 40, Monday, 4/25 – I didn’t get to sleep until 1:15am this morning, and I woke up at 7:30am, so I was extra tired today.
As I was getting breakfast, I ran into Cory (trail name: Wild Onion) and Colton (trail name: Mowgli). I hiked out with Genie, Splitzy, Sprite, Wild Onion, and Mowgli. There was a steady climb today, but the grade of the trail was gentle, so it didn’t seem too bad. Here we all are snacking and refilling water. It was a hot day, and water wasn’t prevalent, so we drank a lot here to compensate.

When I was on the phone with my folks during the hike today, Mowgli signaled for my attention. He was trying to point out 2 bears to me. I was immersed in the conversation, so I unfortunately didn’t get the message. I haven’t seen bears on this trip yet.
I hiked 16 miles to Iron Mountain Shelter (mile 444). I got to the shelter to find Parkour and Jetpack! I haven’t seen them for 2 weeks, they got off for a wedding and have been playing catch up until now.
I set up my hammock outside the shelter. It’s forecasted to rain overnight, so this will be the true test for the new setup.
