Forest Service Road at Mile 810

Day 66, Saturday, 5/21 – I cowboy camped last night, which turned out to be a disaster. The bugs were horrendous. Dillan was also cowboy camping, but threw in the towel and set up his tent around midnight. I tossed-and-turned for another hour before I got up an set up my hammock. I ended up sleeping from 1:30 to about 5:30. Birthday Sandwich successfully cowboy camped through the night somehow.

On the bright side, we were greeted with a beautiful sunrise in the morning!

Here’s a great shot of Genie and Splitzy

Dillan, Birthday Sandwich and I hiked together again today. We started hiking a bit after 7:30. It was really hot today. Temps were in the mid 90s. We saw on the AT app that we would hike past a swimming hole sometime in the afternoon. We decided we’d stop there and cool off. We learned later that the swimming hole was actually off an old AT trail that wasn’t used anymore. So, we had to back track to get there and ended up adding 1.5 miles to our journey. The swimming hole was decent, but not worth the extra hassle.

Dillan, Birthday Sandwich, and I hiked 18 miles total to mile 810. We are camping off a forest service road. Genie and Splitzy showed up just before dark and also started to set up camp.

It was a good day, but morale was low. It was hot and I didn’t get nearly enough sleep last night.
