Day 67, Sunday, 5/22 – I got a much needed, good nights sleep. It really made all the difference, and set the tone for the day.
I started the hike with Genie, Splitzy, Dillan, and Birthday Sandwich. We had a 2,000ft climb to tackle first thing in the morning, and were rewarded with some nice views from the top.
We stopped at a water source and were greeted with trail magic. A family had dropped off cookies and juice boxes. I grabbed a couple of both.
I then hiked on alone for the remainder of the hike. It was a relatively uneventful day. It was hot again, so even though the trail was gentle, I felt like I was dragging.
Towards the end of the hike, a storm rolled through. The rain was appreciated, it took a lot of the heat away. The storm itself was enjoyable too, the storm cell was far enough away that I didn’t feel like I was in danger. I hiked the last 2 miles of the day in the storm.
In total, I hiked 19 miles today to Priest Shelter (mile 829). As soon as I set up my tarp and hammock, the storm subsided. That’s how it goes!
