Rock Spring Hut

Day 73, Saturday, 5/28 – I woke up at 5:30am this morning and was hiking by 6:30am. There was a beautiful sunburst through the trees for the first hour or two of the hike.

Genie, Splitzy, Half Time, Birthday Sandwich, and I all stopped at a wayside for lunch and some food resupply. We hung out for about an hour and a half, which was a lot longer than we had planned.

Shortly after the wayside, we took a side trail to Bearfence Overlook. This took a bit of scrambling to traverse, but it was well worth it. The rocks were protruding out of the trees, and we were rewarded with some 360 degree views.

We then hiked on to another wayside. I got a burger and a blackberry milkshake. I’m getting spoiled, the Shenandoah’s have so many amenities.

I was doing a bit of foot care at the wayside. With all the rain, my feet have been wet for a few days straight. This has lead to some raw spots on my feet that are relatively painful to walk on.

Half Time and I hiked on after the Wayside. We were going back and forth playing songs and sharing music. We stopped at an overlook and caught another amazing sunset.

End of the day, we hiked 23 miles to Rock Spring Hut (mile 930).
