Days Inn Waynesboro PA

Day 83, Tuesday, 6/7 – This morning was another cruisy hike. It might have been the flattest section of trail that I have hiked so far. Half Time and I were still taking it slow to recover from our ailments (my heel and his strep throat).

We came across more US history plaques along the way, almost all of which were dedicated to George Washington. There was also a real neat stone monument dedicated to George Washington, built by volunteers in 1827.

We got rained on for a good 3 hours during the hike today. With how warm it is nowadays, I welcomed the rain.

We were looking ahead on Guthook (the phone app used for all AT logistics), and saw that pizza could be delivered to Pen Mar Park. We ordered pizza at 5:15, to be delivered at 6:30. We were 3 miles away which is typically a reasonable distance to hike in that amount of time, but the trail was a whole lot rockier than we anticipated. We hustled and still made it before the pizza arrived.

Half Time was talking about how he wanted to stay in a hotel, but I didn’t want to shell out the dollars. I sleep better outside in a hammock anyway, even in the rain. But I said that if we found 2 other hikers to split the room with, that I be up for going into town.

We made it to Pen Mar Park and were eating pizza when Didgeridoo and Zen walked by. We asked if they wanted to go in on a hotel room, and they said yes. We booked a room at the Days Inn, which only ended up being $25 per person. They also helped us eat all the pizza we ordered.

Shortly after leaving Pen Mar Park, Half Time and I crossed the Mason Dixon Line. The Mason Dixon Line marks the state border between Maryland and Pennsylvania.

We had a bit over 3 miles to hike to get to Waynesboro. Half Time was in rough shape by the end of the hike, he really wasn’t feeling well. Luckily, we finished the hike before dark (27 miles to mile 1070), and started to hitch into town. We landed a hitch before it got dark, which is important because it is much harder to land a hitch after dark.
