Eagle’s Nest Shelter

Day 91, Wednesday, 6/15 – I woke up groggy at 5:00am. Half Time and Birthday Sandwich hiked out at 6:15am, they wanted to hike the 28 miles into Port Clinton. I wasn’t feeling it, so I took a leisure morning. I was ready to hike by 7:00am, but ended up waiting to hike until 8:15am so I could head out with Genie and Splitzy.

We hiked past 1,200 miles today! Also, the trail is 2,194 miles, which means we are under 1,000 miles to go. But, it still feels a bit early to start a countdown.

I saw another rattle snake on trail today. This one looked like an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. I used my trekking poles to gently direct the snake off trail, just like Zen did yesterday. The snake moved a few feet off trail, then got upset and started to coil itself up. It was far enough off trail, and I didn’t want to die, so I left it alone after it started to coil up.

I hiked 19 miles to Eagle’s Nest Shelter (mile 1211). The trail was gentle today, but the hike felt like a slog. I’m sleeping in the shelter with Genie, Splitzy, and Rabbit. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow morning, and I want to avoid packing up a wet tarp.
