Day 90, Tuesday, 6/14 – I woke up at 5:00am and was hiking by 6:00am. It was forecasted to rain, so Half Time and I wanted to be packed up before the rain started. It didn’t end up raining, but it’s never bad to get an early start.

We ate lunch and hung out at a shelter with Chris Crinkle and Dreamer. We weren’t all that motivated to hike, and we enjoyed the company, so we ended up hanging out for 2 hours.
Birthday Sandwich and Dog Fish must have passed us when we were at lunch because they sent us a photo of trail magic a mile up trail. Dog Fish then sent us a text communicating that the folks hosting the trail magic were packing up, so we were going to miss out.
Half Time is competitive by nature and couldn’t accept that we woke up earlier than the other guys and we didn’t get the trail magic. There was a Wendy’s 3 miles away, so he talked me into hitching. He wanted to send back a picture of us with Frosty’s. We put out our thumbs, and the 3rd car that passed stopped for us. Mark gave us both a ride to Wendy’s. He also paid for both of our lunches. What an amazingly generous thing to do.

Once we were done with Wendys, we got a hitch back to trail. Erica gave us the ride, and the minute we got back on trail, we saw the trail magic. It turns out, Dog Fish was playing a little prank by telling us that we missed out on trail magic. Jokes on her, we got free Wendy’s!

We hiked on from trail magic and saw Zen stopped on the side of the trail. There was a timber rattlesnake on trail. It was hiding under some leaves, so a hiker could step on it accidentally if they weren’t paying attention. A bite from a timber rattler can kill a human. Zen used his trekking poles to gently direct the rattle snake off trail.

I hiked 25 miles to William Penn Shelter (mile 1192). I’m hammock camping, and am here with Birthday Sandwich, Half Time, Didgeridoo, and August. Birthday Sandwich packed out banana pudding with vanilla wafers that he shared with the group.
