Ten Mile River Shelter

Day 109, Sunday, 7/3 – I woke up early this morning and was packed up by 6:30am. The pizza shop was next to a deli, so I had planned on stopping in for some breakfast and a hot coffee. Because it was a holiday weekend, they weren’t going to be open for another half hour. It was cool this morning and I wanted to hike while the weather was nice, so I skipped the deli and got back on trail.

The hiking was great today. The weather was temperate and the trail was smooth. I ended up hiking 14 miles by noon. I knew there was a Malaysian food truck that I would hike past around lunch time, so I was motivated to hike fast. Margaritaville caught up to me just before the food truck, and she was happy I reminded her about it.

We hiked together for a bit and ran into trail magic. Someone had left out a cooler with cold drinks and some fresh fruit. I grabbed a banana and a Sunny D.

We left the trail magic and headed over to the food truck. I got a boba tea, a couple of pork buns, and a veggie & rice dish. The food was great. I was laughing to myself because I specifically got authentic Asian food in New York City because I thought I wouldn’t come across it on trail.

I of course had to gloat over the food truck, so I sent photos to everyone who wasn’t there. Dog Fish stylized the photo and sent it back.

I hiked 25 miles to Ten Mile River Shelter (Mile 1462). It was only 6:30pm, so I wasn’t necessarily done hiking, but I was hungry for dinner. I decided to eat at the shelter and figure out some logistics. I hiked up to the shelter and saw Strange Brew and SIS at a picnic table. I had met Strange Brew at the ATC in Harpers Ferry, so I joined them at the table. I did an inventory of my food, and realized I was short for my current section. There’s a convenience store on trail a mile up, so I decided to stay at the shelter and get to the shop tomorrow morning.
