Day 148, Thursday, 8/11 – I started my day with an 8 mile hike into Spaulding Mountain Lean-to. I was really hungry rolling into camp and cooked up 2 packages of ramen.
I left the Lean-to after lunch and hiked to the top of Spaulding Mountain. I got a nice view of Sugarloaf, which is one of the larger ski resorts in Maine.

Towards the end of the day, I hiked up to South Crocker Mountain with Birthday, hoping to catch a sunset. On the way up, we saw Strider hiking down the mountain. I haven’t seen Strider since Uncle Johnny’s in mid April. Apparently he decided to flip to the top and hike South after getting off trail for a little while. It was certainly a surprise run in.
Birthday and I got to South Crocker Mountain, hoping to find a stealth spot, but the good spots were already taken. There was rain in the forecast, so we ditched the idea of finding a campsite to watch the sunset, and hiked into the saddle between South and North Crocker Mountain (Mile 2,000). We found a spot that just barely fit a hammock and a tent, and setup our shelters. We ate dinner just before it started raining. Once it started raining, I made my way to the hammock for the night.
