Day 146, Tuesday, 8/9 – It rained all night last night, but I stayed dry. I woke up around 6:30am, and there was a pause in the rain, so I started packing up. I didn’t fill my water bottles last night because of the rain fiasco at dinner time, so I was happy to see Genie come walking up with an extra liter for me.
I hiked out with Genie and Aqua this morning. It started raining pretty good once we we started hiking. We hiked 4.5 miles to a shelter and had second breakfast. I tried spam for the first time ever. It was pretty nasty, but I guess I ate it straight out of the package. Maybe it’s better cooked.

I hiked another 3.5 miles with Aqua and Birthday to Bemis Mtn Road. John, Danny, Donna, and a few other friends had a huge trail magic setup. They were an incredibly generous group that was just out there to support hungry hikers.

We all stayed for 2 hours and ate a ridiculous amount of food. I had 2 hotdogs, 1 bacon cheese burger, 1 Whoopi pie, 2 brownies, 3 Oreos, 2 slices of watermelon, a full plate of pasta salad, a couple glasses of chocolate milk, a Gatorade, and a soda. I was just about uncomfortably full leaving camp.
It was 3:00pm and we had another 8 miles to go to get to our campsite. Fortunately, the trail wasn’t rough. I hiked out with Birthday, and we were moving fast. We stopped after about 4 miles at a shelter for a quick break. We met Abby, Cap’n Crunch, and Vibe. They seem like a fun crew, I hope to run into them again.

Birthday and I hiked the last 4 miles together into camp. It started raining just before we got to the tent sites at Little Swift River Pond (Mile 1969). I threw up the tarp to get out of the rain. I purposefully didn’t set up my hammock so we could all eat dinner together out of the rain. Aqua, Genie, Splitzy, and Birthday all joined me for dinner under the tarp before bed.
