Day 157, Saturday, 8/20 – I woke up at 6:15am, packed up, then ate breakfast with Birthday, Stretch, and Chompers who all slept in the lean-to. Apparently, we slept next to train tracks, because they told me all about how loud the screeching was from the train that went by in the middle of the night. I’m surprised I slept through it, I’m typically a very light sleeper.
The hiking was rather difficult today. There were a few more river crossings, the temperatures got into the upper 80s, and there was a lot of ascent. I was sweaty and took a few long breaks.

I passed the 100-mile-to-go mile marker and the 2100 mile marker today. I’m guessing that these are the last trail mile markers I’ll see on the hike.

The trail passed by the wreckage from a plane crash, that was certainly interesting.

I hiked the second half of the day with Quitter. He’s a fast hiker, so I let him lead and worked hard to keep up.

I ended my day at Katahdin Ironworks Road (Mile 2109). Although it was the plan for all of us to camp here tonight, it ended up being an aggressive 19 mile day, so I was the only one who made it.
