Day 156, Friday, 8/19 – I woke up and had breakfast with Birthday, Genie, Splitzy, and a few other hikers. The breakfast here is out of this world. Shaw’s really has it down.

I packed up my stuff after breakfast, and lounged around the hostel. I got on the piano for a bit and jammed with Curtis. The piano was really out of tune, but I kinda made it work. It was fun regardless.

The hostel had a VCR player, and I found a Forrest Gump VHS, so I got that movie going in the common room. Whoever watched it last must rewound it, which was cool because it was always a pain to rewind movies before watching them.

I spent some time blogging as I was watching the movie. Napoleon and Birthday were also watching the movie when Mowgli came in! I haven’t seen Mowgli since the end of April. It’s really fun seeing hikers after so much time has passed.

Gandalf, Genie, Splitzy, Birthday, Bud, Mowgli, and I then headed to the general store for sandwiches. We brought the sandwiches back to Shaw’s, and continued watching Forrest Gump.

At noon, the hostel shuttled Chompers, Stretch, Birthday, Genie, Splitzy, and me back to trail. We immediately entered the 100 Mile Wilderness.

I hiked with Chompers and Stretch for a bit, then also hiked with Birthday, Tiki, Genie, and Splitzy. We had 2 major river crossings today. I don’t have camp shoes, so I opted to go barefoot to keep my shoes dry. I took my time, made sure I had solid footing, and made it across both rivers without going for a swim.

I ended the day at Wilson Valley Lean-to (Mile 2090). I set up my hammock, then ate dinner with Chompers, Stretch, Birthday, Tiki, Genie, and Splitzy.
