Day 6, Tuesday, 3/22 – I was cold sleeping last night. Even with a 20deg quilt, I had to put on my puffy jacket. Once I had my jacket on, I was plenty warm. But, it does make me thankful that I didn’t start a few weeks earlier when temps got down to 15deg and there were blizzard conditions.
I ate muesli with cranberries again for breakfast. As I was leaving camp, I got a small amount of sunscreen from Churchill, who got his name from smoking cigars every night.
I hiked for a bit with Mr Trail Flare Daddy, Free, Paul, Randy, and Jeopardy. They all started the same day as me. I played leap frog with Rabbit Rainbow Walker for most of the day too.

I ran into Unicorn at the top of Tray Mountain. We hiked for a while together. He attempted a thru hike in 2019. We had a conversation about mental health. Its amazing how open and trusting people are on the AT.
I hiked with Genie and Liz at the end of the day, they were my motivation to make it to camp. Genie and Liz were great company. Genie had thru hiked the AT in 2013 and both Genie and Liz have thru hiked the PCT.

I made it 15.5 miles, which puts me at mile 65.5. I am tent camping at Deep Gap Shelter, and it will end up raining overnight, so I’ll have to break camp in the rain which I’m not looking forward. I’ve got a shuttle scheduled for noon from Dicks Creek to resupply in Hiawassee. I’m just about out of food, so I timed it well.
