Shaw’s Hiker Hostel Night 2

Day 155, Thursday, 8/18 – I woke up at 6:45am, just in time for a huge breakfast. Shaw’s is known for their large portions. I had 3 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, and 4 large blueberry pancakes. I ate with Aqua, Bud, Blaze, and a few other hikers. The food was delicious.

Birthday and I followed up breakfast with some chores. We got laundry going, and I caught up with blogging as I sat out on the porch. As I was writing, I saw a few shuttles bring in hikers that I knew. 2×4 and Puffer came in, then Abby and Vibe, then Genie and Splitzy.

Genie and Splitzy finished up a few chores, then Birthday, Genie, Splitzy and I got lunch at the general store. Birthday had to eat off the premises because he didn’t realize he couldn’t have an alcoholic drink out on the patio.

We then headed back to the hostel and resupplied food. We are about to go into the 100 mile wilderness, so got food for 7 days. We plan on taking our time and also taking a side trail during the 100 mile wilderness. Fortunately, the hostel will drive a food cache 60 miles up into the wilderness, so we won’t have to carry 7 days of food at one time.

We finished chores, and walked to the only other restaurant in town, which was a BBQ joint. I was waiting in line, when Stretch came in! She had just hiked in, and was staying at Shaw’s. She told me one of her good friends is expecting a child, so she gets an apple hat!

On our way back from the BBQ restaurant, I ran into Fungi and Leprechaun. They were slack-lining outside the hostel. I joined them for a while. I then went inside and socialized for a little while before going to bed.

  1. Wow Kevin! What a journey!? Almost there! On your final leg, May the trail rise to meet you and the wind be at your back!

  2. Were you able to retain any of your slack lining skills?? I haven’t busted mine out yet this year, but now I feel like I should!

    1. I was definitely rusty, but able to walk across it again within a couple hours
